Santa Llúcia Fair, a Catalan tradition

Hostal Mare Nostrum wants to talk today about a very appreciated fair in our city, La Feria de Santa Llúcia.
The Fira de Santa Llúcia date of 1786 and is considered one of the longest established fairs and a tradition of Barcelona. It sold since ancient statues and moss to build cribs.
One of the most renowned figures can be found are the “caganer” (an essential part of the Catalan pesebre), the little character who is making their who's defecating. There also characterizations of famous personalities from all areas, like president Obama, or football players like Andres Iniesta.
Is said that before was also called "the fair of the girls" because was said that young girls came to arrange pairings, very well-dressed and accompanied by their mothers.
